"Where oh where did that little dog (Miscou) go???", many of us wondered as we reached the 5km point tonight. Well, it seemed that the 5km road marking had been removed, and that "turn-around Lisa" hence proceeded up the road to the line drawn for the Open Series. So did most of us, with only Nicole trying to right the wrong with a compromise - a turn at a road marking somewhere around 5.2km (we'll check out that distance later and make any needed change). We're a pretty jolly, flexible gang of women, but perhaps the most amused and accommodating of the bunch tonight was Kathy, whose surprise pie-prize plan was foiled by the change in distance. Kathy had bought three pies which she had planned to give to the three riders who improved their times the most on the course this week. She laughed afterwards that when she saw that the course length was changed, all she could think about was how that messed up her intended surprise. But being as quick of mind as she is fast on the bike, Kathy reworked her idea and decided to give the pies instead to the on-course volunteers. Lisa received the bumbleberry pie (which surely was not in any way related to her role in the bumbling of Kathy's plan?), Jackie Madill was thrilled with her lemon pie award, and Jim, was the appropriate winner of the sugar pie.
Thanks to all of the volunteers for another pleasurable evening. A special thanks goes from Mary Ajersch to Kristin Marvin - for the loan of her helmet. Mary had forgotten hers, and Kristin, who damaged her wheel in transit, offered her helmet to Mary. Even when a wheel, and not an extra helmet, arrived for Kristin before the race, she insisted that she had offered Mary the helmet and that she wanted Mary, rather than herself, to ride.
